Cowgirl Camp Level I
Aspiring cowgirls with a taste for adventure will find a real working horse
ranch experience. "Cowgirl Camp" offer you an opportunity to live
your dream of experiencing ranch life. Share the day's adventure with your
new friends, and revel in your achievements.
Sign on for 5 full days of wide open spaces in our Northwestern Cowgirl Camp classroom and ride back in time with authentic western tradition, safe horses and patient instruction! Because our "Cowgirl Camps" are designed for small groups, each participant will receive as much individual attention and instruction as possible. Our instructors have spent most of their lives working with horses. They will patiently and quietly help you accomplish as many of your goals as possible during your 5-day visit, while improving your horsemanship and riding skills.
Sunday Afternoon - Arrive at the Ranch
Sunday Afternoon: Plan to arrive at Flying L Ranch in the afternoon, anytime after 3 p.m. Staff will complete your registration, give you a "Welcome Packet", answer any questions and collect any balance that may still be due. We'll show you to your cottage. Make yourself at home! Most of you will have traveled many hours. For your convenience, we'll provide a light evening meal.
Day 2 ... Horsemanship!
You'll meet at the barn at 7 a.m. to groom, feed and saddle your horse. We invite all our guests to help with ranch chores. After an 8:30 a.m. breakfast, meet back at the barn ready to saddle up. Head for the arena and a morning horsemanship refresher course to make sure you are comfortable with your horse and saddle. Balance, correct posture, soft hands, comfortable seat...the "why" and "how" of western riding.
After a morning spent in the arena, you'll be ready for a relaxing afternoon trail ride.
Day 3 ... Team Penning!
Now that you've got the basics for riding your horse, put your new skills to work! Your 3-girl team will learn what it takes to sort, cut and track cattle, moving them from one end of the arena to the other, and into a 3-sided pen.
After lunch, an afternoon trail ride.
Day 4 ... Ladies & Lassos Clinic / Barrel Racing
Grab your lasso, Cowgirls! You’re gonna learn to rope them doggies!
Day 5 ... Round Up & Rodeo
Round Up in the morning. In the evening a boot stompin’, dirt raisin’ fun Rodeo and Ranch Horse Competition.
Good-hearted competition began years ago on ranches, to allow hands and their horses the opportunity to showcase time-honored skills. Our "Ranch Horse Competition" will include fun, light-hearted events, and for those of you who want to learn how to build a loop and swing a rope, there will be a "Ladies and Lassos Clinic." Participation is not mandatory, of course, but will provide you with a hoot and a holler and make for a great story to take back home.
Day 6 ... Friday
It's Friday, and you have options!
Shakespeare, massage, hike through Ashland, galleries, shopping, wine tours…
Massage!
There is an additional charge of $75, payable at the time of service, directly
to the Masseuse.

We provide:
*We do require riding experience. You should be able to walk, trot, canter and should be in good physical condition, able to ride 6-8 hours per day for most of our trails. We do take breaks every hour to stretch our legs, but the pace can be quite challenging with long stretches of trotting and cantering where terrain allows. However, we do adjust to every riding ability to make it enjoyable for riders and the horses, as well.
